Getting everyone together for extended family photos is no small feat- especially when you’re the photographer and part of the family! During a recent trip back to Arrington, TN, I had the opportunity to capture updated portraits for my own extended family, including all of the individual family groups and a large group photo of everyone together. Like many photographers, I ended up photographing the session and later photoshopping myself into the final image, which feels pretty fitting. As challenging as it can be to coordinate schedules, wrangle family members, and make sure everyone is looking at the camera, these images quickly become some of the most treasured photographs a family owns. Sessions like this are a reminder of why I believe so strongly in family photography, capturing generations together, preserving memories, and creating photographs that will only become more meaningful with time. While I’m based in North Carolina, I regularly travel to Middle Tennessee and love photographing extended families, family reunions, and multi-generational portrait sessions throughout the area.
